  OUR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT CONSIST OF (1) DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DETECTIVE; DET.  TONY HUDDLESTON HAS COMPLETED DIFFERENT SCHOOLS ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND IS CERTIFIED AS AN INSTRUCTOR IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. 

OUR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT HAS ADDED AN ASSISTANT TO THE DVUNIT

  DOMESTIC VIOLENCE   

  (TCA 39-13-111) 

  A PERSON COMMITS DOMESTIC ASSAULT WHO COMMITS AN ASSAULT AGAINST A PERSON WHO IS THAT PERSON'S FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER 

  "FAMILY OR HOUSEHOLD MEMBER" MEANS:  

  •   SPOUSE 

  •   FORMER SPOUSE, 

  •   PERSON RELATED BY BLOOD OR MARRIAGE OR 

  •   PERSON WHO CURRENTLY RESIDES OR IN THE PAST HAS RESIDED WITH THAT PERSON ON  AS IF A FAMILY, OR

  •   A PERSON WHO HAS A CHILD OR CHILDREN IN COMMON WITH THAT PERSON REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY HAVE BEEN MARRIED OR RESIDED TOGETHER AT ANY   TIME.

  It has been estimated that as many as four million women in this country will be involved in a 

  domestic violence situation and the assailant will be a spouse or boyfriend. 

  Domestic Violence is an equal opportunity crime.  It does not know the boundaries between age,                                                               cultures, income, or religious beliefs.  

Once a domestic violence assault occurs, more than likely, it will be repeated and usually with eachOccurrence the violence will escalate and in some cases will involve the death of the victim or assailant.

  •   EMOTIONAL LIABILITY/DEPRESSION 

  •   CHILDHOOD ABUSE

  •   OVERLY SENSITIVE 

  •   ALTERED CONSCIOUSNESS 

  •   THREATS OF VIOLENCE 

  •   BLAMES OTHERS 

  •   CHEMICAL ABUSE 

  •   MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS REQUIRING IN-PATIENT HOSPITALIZATION 

  •   **HISTORY OF VIOLENCE** 

  •   ODD/BIZARRE BELIEFS 

  •   PHYSICAL PROBLEMS 

  •   PREOCCUPATION WITH VIOLENCE THEMES 

  •   PATHOLOGICAL TRIAD/SCHOOL PROBLEMS 

  In the year 1999, the City of LaFollette did have one such incident, where the victim had to take desperate measures and make Life threatening decision and take another life of someone they loved. 

  So please keep these next few items in mind to ask yourself, "Am I a Victim of Domestic Violence?" 

  •   Discourage your relationships with family and friends?  

  •   Criticize you for little things?  

  •   Humiliate you in front of others? 

  •   Prevent you from working or attending school? 

  •   Constantly accuse you of being unfaithful? 

  •   Keep up with where your at every second of the day and night? 

  •   Destroy personal property or sentimental items? 

  •   Hit punch, slap, kick, or bite you or the children? 

  •   Use or threats of violence involving a weapon against you or the children  

  •   Keep the finances and make you account for everything you spend? 

  •   Anger easily when drinking or on drugs? 

  •   Force you to have sex against your will?  

  If you have answered any of these questions with "YES", please seek help.  

 

 

   "RIGHTS OF VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE "  

 

IF YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING RIGHTS: 

  •   You may file a criminal complaint with the District Attorney General. 

  •   You may request a protection order.  A protection order may include the following: 

  •   An order preventing the abuser from committing further domestic abuse against you, 

  •   An order requiring the abuser to leave your household, 

  •   An order preventing the abuser from harassing you or contacting you for any reason, 

  •   An order giving you or the other parent custody of or visitation with your minor child or children, 

  •   An order requiring the abuser to pay money to support you and the minor children if the abuser has a legal 

  •   obligation to do so, and 

  •   An order preventing the abuser from stalking you.
